Sérgio Pequito wins José Tribolet Award
Professor Sérgio Pequito, a researcher at ISR-Lisboa, has been named the winner of the José Tribolet Prize 2024/25, powered by Deloitte, for developing and deploying an AI-based virtual tutor integrated into a Técnico engineering course, a project that is now shaping how digital tools are adopted across the institution.
New MSCA Doctoral Network with ISR-Lisboa Core
Athanasios Vourvopoulos, Assistant Professor at the Department of Bioengineering of Instituto Superior Técnico and researcher at the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR-Lisboa), has been awarded funding from the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks programme of the European Commission to coordinate an international research and training network in the field of neurotechnology.
BreastScreening-AI Selected for the EIC Pre-Accelerator
BreastScreening-AI has been selected for the EIC Pre-Accelerator, one of the most competitive programmes of the European Innovation Council. Out of more than one thousand applications submitted from across Europe, only around 70 startups were chosen, each receiving approximately €500,000 in funding. This result places the company among a highly selective group of early-stage deep tech ventures with recognised European impact potential.
A Full Week in Barcelos: RoboCup Portugal Open & ICARSC 2026
Barcelos hosted a landmark week for robotics in late April 2026, bringing together students, and industry professionals from Portugal and beyond, with ISR-Lisboa researchers as an integral part of it all.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Biomedical Engineers
The Department of Bioengineering (DBE) at Instituto Superior Técnico, hosted its annual Open Laboratories initiative from 20 to 24 April 2026, welcoming around 500 secondary school students to its Alameda campus. The event, organised in collaboration with the student associations NEBIST and NEBM, offered young visitors the opportunity to meet researchers, attend talks, and take part in hands-on experimental demonstrations spanning Biological Sciences, Bioengineering, and Biomedical Engineering.
We aim to catalyze positive change in human and societal systems, driven by a dual commitment: to advance the frontiers of both fundamental and applied science & technology and to train the next generation of experts.
