Patrícia Figueiredo elected President of ESMRMB

Patrícia Figueiredo was inaugurated as President of the European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology (ESMRMB) on October 5, 2024, beginning her third four-year leadership track. With nearly 800 members, the ESMRMB supports education and research in MRI and spectroscopy, bringing together experts across disciplines. Figueiredo, a long-time member who previously chaired the 2021 Annual Meeting, aims to drive innovation and shape European research in magnetic resonance.

On October 5, 2024, ISR-Lisboa researcher Patrícia Figueiredo was officially inaugurated as the President of the European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology (ESMRMB) during the Society’s Annual Business Meeting. Her appointment marks the beginning of her third four-year presidential track, which includes roles as President-Elect, Vice-President, President, and Past-President.

Founded in 1984, the ESMRMB is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing education and research in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and spectroscopy for medicine and biology. With nearly 800 members, ESMRMB brings together a multidisciplinary community of physicists, engineers, biomedical scientists, radiologists, clinicians, and radiographers. ESMRMB’s initiatives include an annual conference, a series of educational courses throughout the year, and the open science event “MRI Together.” The ESMRMB also oversees the scientific journal “MAGMA” and supports six working groups focused on different areas of magnetic resonance research.

A dedicated member of ESMRMB for a decade, Patrícia Figueiredo served on the Education Committee from 2016 to 2019 and chaired the 38th Annual Meeting in 2021 before being elected to the presidential track in 2022. Her leadership is a testament to the international recognition of Técnico’s faculty and her contributions as an ISR researcher. As President, she aims to shape the future of European research in magnetic resonance, drive innovation, and enhance clinical applications across the field.
