euROBIN Robotic Coopetition @HUMANOIDS 24

At ISR-Lisboa, we are partners of the euROBIN project, which is organizing the 1st euROBIN week and Robotic Coopetition, in partnership with the prestigious HUMANOIDS 2024 event, to be held from November 22-28, 2024, in Nancy, France. This landmark event will showcase Europe’s cutting-edge advancements in robotics and AI.

Our SocRob@Home team is gearing up to participate in the highly anticipated 1st euROBIN week and Robotic Coopetition. Hosted at the Centre des Congrès Prouvé, the event will bring together 32 partners, 50 robots, 18 robotics teams, and nearly 500 scientists and professionals from the AI and robotics sectors. It features leading universities, research institutes, and industry experts from across Europe. The week-long event will highlight a range of cutting-edge technologies through live demonstrations, cooperative competitions, and public engagement activities, including workshops, guided tours, and round tables.

ISR-Lisboa is involved in the organization and planning of the cooperative competitions. We are also partners in the Human-Robot Interaction research, with a Doctoral thesis co-supervised by Pedro Lima and Dr. Rachid Alami, from LAAS, France. In this Nancy event, ISR-Lisboa leads the organization of the coopetitions, aiming at studying new methodologies for transferability across robot platforms and robot tasks.

The 1st euROBIN Coopetition will challenge participants in three key areas: industrial manipulation, where robotic arms will handle precise tasks like using a voltmeter; outdoor navigation, where drones and legged robots will navigate complex environments; and domestic interaction, where robots will perform household tasks such as opening fridges and organizing objects.

The SocRob@Home team, a long-standing project at ISR, has a rich history of competing in scientific robotics competitions. Their focus is on developing a team of robots capable of performing collaborative tasks, particularly in domestic and interactive environments. Participating in the euROBIN Coopetition is a significant opportunity for SocRob to demonstrate their innovative approaches to robotics, leveraging years of research and expertise to take on some of the most challenging tasks in the field.

This event marks a key milestone for the European robotics community, promoting collaboration and innovation, and positioning ISR-Lisboa among the top contenders in robotic research and development.
