As a spinoff of ISR-Lisboa, connected to LARSyS and Instituto Superior Técnico, BreastScreening-AI develops artificial intelligence tools to support breast cancer diagnosis, designed to integrate seamlessly into radiologists’ existing workflows. The connection to ISR-Lisboa was foundational: it enabled a rigorous, user-centred approach combining AI and medical imaging, allowed the technology to be validated in realistic clinical settings, and ensured it addresses concrete clinical needs. This selection consolidates the company’s position in the EIC pipeline and strengthens the path toward a future EIC Accelerator application and investment raising.
“This selection confirms the relevance of our work at a European level. Our focus is on improving clinically relevant decisions in breast cancer diagnosis, supporting radiologists with tools that integrate into existing workflows. This funding allows us to bring the technology closer to clinical practice and prepare for its large-scale adoption.” shared Francisco Maria Calisto.
The EIC funding will be used to advance clinical validation in real-world contexts, pursue regulatory alignment, and prepare for market entry. The team, currently a small, focused core, supported by a broader network of researchers and clinical collaborators, is growing progressively, in step with the product’s validation and development phases.
