The MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships support PhD holders in advancing their research careers through international, interdisciplinary, and inter-sectoral mobility. Fellows can carry out their research project abroad while gaining valuable skills and experience.
There are two types of MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships:
- European Postdoctoral Fellowships. They are open to researchers moving within Europe or coming to Europe from another part of the world to pursue their research career. These fellowships take place in an EU member state or Horizon Europe associated country and can last between 1 and 2 years. Researchers of any nationality can apply.
- Global Postdoctoral Fellowships. They fund the mobility of researchers outside Europe. The fellowship lasts between 2 to 3 years, of which the first 1 to 2 years will be spent in a non-associated Third Country, followed by a mandatory return phase of 1 year to an organisation based in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country. Only nationals or long-term residents of the EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries can apply.
Who can apply for postdoctoral fellowships?
Interested researchers apply together with a host organisation, which can be a university, research institution, business, SME or other organisation based in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must have a PhD degree at the call deadline. Those who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but have not yet been awarded the degree are also eligible.
Applicants must have no more than 8 years of research experience after their PhD (with exceptions, for career breaks and time spent in third countries, under reintegration conditions).
Applicants must meet the mobility rule: they must not have lived or worked in the host country (for European PFS) or the outgoing host country (for Global PFS) for more than 12 months in the 36 months before the call deadline.
Deadline for applications: 10 September 2025
How to Apply:
Applications must be submitted jointly with a host institution. If you are interested in applying with ISR-Lisboa as your host, please contact Filipa Carvalho (Science Manager) with an expression of interest:
